General description
Imazamethabenz-methyl– an acetolactate synthase inhibitor, is a mixture of meta- and para-isomers (2:3) that belongs to a group of imidazolinone herbicides. This systemic herbicide is applied postemergence in winter cereals and other crops to control grasses and some dicotyledonous weeds. Imazamethabenz-methyl is effective against many of the economically important weeds such as Avena spp., Apera spica-venti, Poa trivialis, Raphanus raphanistrum, and Brassica spp. that infest wheat, barley, and rye. The herbicide is readily absorbed through the foliage and roots of sensitive weeds and is slowly translocated to the meristematic regions. It functions by inhibiting acetohydroxyacid synthase enzyme, which is responsible for the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids in plants.
According to Regulation (EC) 1107/2009, repealing Council Directive 91/414/EEC, imazamethabenz-methyl is not approved for use in European Union (EU). A default MRL of 0.01 mg/kg is set according to Art 18(1)(b) Reg 396 / 2005.
Application
The imazamethabenz-methyl CRM may also find following uses:
- Study the photolysis of imazamox, imazapic, imazaquin, and imazamethabenz-methyl as functions of wavelength, pH, and natural organic matter in an aqueous solution
- Comparative study of the extraction of imazamethabenz-methyl from agricultural soils, followed by its chromatographic determination using HPLC
- Investigate the absorption and translocation of fenoxaprop-ethyl and imazamethabenz-methyl in wild oat plants grown under different conditions of temperature and light intensity using 14C tracer techniques
- Simultaneous determination of p- and m-imazamethabenz-methyl enantiomers using a protein chiral selector based on a direct chiral HPLC method
- To develop a multiresidue method for the determination of post-emergence herbicides in water samples by SPE coupled with HPLC/ESI/MS in positive ionization mode
