General description

Methyl Paraben is a stable, non-volatile, methyl ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It can find applications as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial preservative in foods, drugs and cosmetics. It is found to be noncarcinogenic and is highly effective against fungi like molds and yeast as well as bacteria.
Methyl paraben is basically a methyl ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It is non-toxic, and non-carcinogenic in nature. It is a stable, non-volatile compound and finds application as an anti-microbial preservative in foods, drugs and cosmetics. It is readily absorbed through the skin and gastrointestinal tract. Upon hydrolyzation, it is hydrolyzed to p-hydroxybenzoic acid, and the conjugates formed get rapidly excreted in the urine.

Application

Methyl paraben was used a preservative standard in commercial food products, during an experimental investigation, done to study the application of microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC), in detecting food preservatives.
Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique. Contact Technical Service for further support.
