Gene Information

human ... DDX6(1656)

General description

DEAD-box helicase 6 (DDX6), also known as RCK/p54, is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 11q23.3. The encoded protein belongs to the DEAD-box RNA helicase family.
This gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family. The protein is an RNA helicase found in P-bodies and stress granules, and functions in translation suppression and mRNA degradation. It is required for microRNA-induced gene silencing. (provided by RefSeq)

Immunogen

DDX6 (AAH65007, 1 a.a. ~ 483 a.a) full-length recombinant protein with GST tag. MW of the GST tag alone is 26 KDa.

Biochem/physiol Actions

DEAD-box helicase 6 (DDX6) is a key constituent of messenger ribonucleoprotein (mRNP) complexes. It facilitates the translation of mRNA in meiotic cells. DDX6 regulates adult progenitor cell function through differentiation-inducing transcripts and by promoting the translation of self-renewal and proliferation mRNAs. Deletion of the gene leads to premature differentiation and decreased proliferation of epidermal progenitor cells. Elevated expression of the gene is associated with the development of colorectal tumors.
