General description

Tubulin β 3 class III (TUBB3) encodes for the microtubule protein tubulin β‐3, which is majorly expressed in neurons. The gene is located on human chromosome 16q24.3.
Tubulin is the main constituent of microtubules made up of two similar polypeptides α and β, each with 50 kD (approx.) molecular weight. It has several cellular functions like mitosis, meiosis, some forms of organellar movement, intracellular transport, flagellar movement and cytoskeletal functions. Monoclonal anti-β-tubulin isotype III antibody can be used in microarray and western blotting. It can also be used in immunoblotting. Mouse anti-β-tubulin isotype III antibody reacts specifically with an epitope present on the β-tubulin (isotype III) of bovine, rat, mouse, boar and human but not with tubulin present in chicken brain preparation or in a chicken fibroblasts cell line.

Immunogen

peptide corresponding to the carboxy-terminal sequence of human β-tubulin isotype III, conjugated to BSA.

Application

Monoclonal Anti-β-Tubulin Isotype III antibody produced in mouse has been used in immunolabelling and flow cytometry.
Monoclonal anti-β-tubulin isotype III antibody (diluted 1:500) can be used as a primary antibody in immunocytochemical analysis of neurons. It can also be used for the localization of isotype III of β-tubulin by several immunochemical assays like dot blot, ELISA and immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Tubulin β 3 class III (TUBB3) regulates neurogenesis and is involved in axon guidance and maintenance. Mutations in this gene is associated with hypoplasia of commissural axon (CA), congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles type 3 (CFEOM3) and dysgyria.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline containing 15 mM sodium azide.
