Application

3,3′,5-Triiodo-L-thyronine sodium salt was used in Oligodendrocyte differentiation medium used for isolation and culture of rat and mouse oligodendrocyte precursor cells. The product was used as a test compound for incubating adipocyte cells, used for studying the impact of hormones and butyrate on modulation of porcine adipocyte beta-adrenergic receptors.

Biochem/physiol Actions

3,3′,5-Triiodo-L-thyronine also referred to as O-(4-Hydroxy-3-iodophenyl)−3,5−diiodo-L-tyrosine sodium salt or T3 is the biologically active thyroid hormone. In hypothyroidism pateints, triiodothyronine can enhance mood and neuropsychological function. The product also positively regulates the hepatic FGF21 expression and stimulates the metabolic breakdown of glucose, fats, and proteins by enhancing the levels of numerous metabolic enzymes such as hexokinase, liver glucose 6-phosphatase as well as mitochondrial enzymes for oxidative phosphorylation.

Preparation Note

3,3′,5-Triiodo-L-thyronine sodium salt dissolves in 1 M HCl:EtOH with a ratio of 1:4 at 10 mg/ml to yield a clear, colorless to yellow or faint pink solution.

Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by presence of α-synuclein-positive inclusions in the cytoplasm of oligodendrocytes. These glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCIs) are considered an integral part of the pathogenesis of MSA, leading to demyelination and neuronal demise.

The hippocampus is a well-known target of thyroid hormone (TH; e.g., 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine-T3) and glucocorticoid (GC; e.g., corticosterone-CORT) action. Despite evidence that TH and GC play critical roles in neural development and function, few studies have identified genes and patterns of
