Gene Information

General description

VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) is a homodimeric protein secreted by a variety of vascularized tissues. It is expressed embryonically in mice, in the lung mesenchyme and epithelium. It belongs to the group of vascular endothelium-specific growth factors. Mouse VEGF is a 39kDa homodimeric protein consisting of two 165 amino acid polypeptide chains.

Biochem/physiol Actions

VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) stimulates endothelial cell growth, angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and capillary permeability. It has a role in the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts and adipocytes. Disruption of this gene in mice has been associated with vascular abnormalities.

Physical form

Lyophilized without any additives.

Reconstitution

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. The solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers.
