Biochem/physiol Actions

Melarsoprol is an antiprotozoal (Trypanosoma) drug used in treatment of trypanosomiasis (Chagas disease and West African sleeping sickness). The drug mechanism of action is not well characterized. Melarsoprol is still the only effective drug for chemotherapy of second stage of T. b. rhodesiense sleeping sickness. As other arsenic-containing compounds melarsoprol causes cell apoptosis of myeloma and other cancer cell lines.
