Application
Carboxypyridostatin trifluoroacetate salt has been used in the study of translation, stimulated by DHX36 (DEAH-box helicase 36) binding at G-rich sites in mRNA untranslated regions.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Carboxypyridostatin (carboxyPDS) selectively stabilizes RNA-containg G-quadruplex stuctures. Immunofluorescent staining of carboxyPDS treated cells using an anti G-quadruplex antibody reveals staining only in the cytoplasm and not the nucleus, demonstrating selectivity against DNA G-quadruplex structures.

RNA G-quadruplexes (RG4s) are four-stranded structures known to control mRNA translation of cancer relevant genes. RG4 formation is pervasive in vitro but not in cellulo, indicating the existence of poorly characterized molecular machinery that remodels RG4s and maintains them unfolded.
