General description

Anti-Desmin antibody, Mouse monoclonal (mouse IgG1 isotype) is derived from the hybridoma DE-U-10 produced by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells and splenocytes from an immunized BALB/C mouse. Desmin, a major intermediate filament protein in skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle cells. It is predominantly localised to filamentous extrasarcomeric cytoskeleton, which links neighbouring myofibrils and connects the myofibrillar apparatus with the subsarcolemmal cytoskeleton, myonuclei and mitochondria.

Immunogen

Desmin purified from pig stomach

Application

Anti-Desmin antibody, Mouse monoclonal has been used in:
  • immunoblotting
  • immunofluorescence
  • immunohistochemistry
  • microarray

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mutations is the desmin gene (known as desminopathy or DRM) are associated with several human diseases such as atrophy and facial muscle weakness, cardiomyopathy, cardiac arrhythmias and restrictive heart failure and are characterized by intracellular desmin aggregates. Anti-Desmin antibodies can be implemented for cancer research and diagnostics since elevated levels of desmin characterize several types of muscle tissue tumors, such as leiomyomas and rhabdomyosarcomas. The antibody may also be used for meat research measurements.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
