General description

Staphylococcal nuclease and tudor domain containing 1 (SND1), also called as Tudor-SN, is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 7q32.1. The encoded protein acts as an important constituent of RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). SND1 is characterized with an five repeated staphylococcal nuclease homology domains and a Tudor-homology domain involved in interaction of nucleic acids and proteins, respectively.
The SND1 protein is a part of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). It is highly conserved from yeast to human.

Specificity

Anti-SND1 recognizes human, rat and mouse SND1.

Immunogen

peptide corresponding to an internal region of human SND1, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence differs by a single amino acid in mouse and rat.

Application

Anti-SND1 antibody produced in rabbit may be used in:
  • immunoblotting
  • immunoprecipitation
  • immunofluorescence

Biochem/physiol Actions

SND1 protein plays a vital role in the degradation of hyper-edited inosine containing miRNA precursors. It also controls miRNA processing and expression through RNA editing by adenosine deaminase acting on RNA (ADAR).
Staphylococcal nuclease and tudor domain containing 1 (SND1) interacts with RNA in some sequence-specific manner and regulates the gene expression at both transcriptional and posttranscriptional levels. The encoded protein plays a key role in gene transcription and mRNA metabolism. Additionally, it is also implicated in maintenance of cellular cholesterol distribution and homeostasis in hepatoma cells. SND1 facilitates various RNA functions such as, RNA maturation, spliceosome assembly,pre-mRNA splicing, RNA stability and RNA editing. It is also involved in RNA interference, microRNA processing, response to environmental and metabolic stressors and lipoprotein lipid secretion. Overexpression of the gene has been observed in human colon cancers and hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8°C for up to one month. For extended storage freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilution samples should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
