Gene Information

human ... LTF(4057)

General description

LTF (lactotransferrin) codes for a 80 kDa glycoprotein which is expressed in many tissues and organs such as mammary gland, uterus, kidney and brain and found in body fluids including tears, milk, vitreous humor and saliva. Lactotransferrin is considered pleiotropic. Lactotransferrin belongs to the transferrin family and is homologous in sequence and structure with iron binding protein. The LTF gene is mapped to human chromosome 3p21.31.
The LTF ELISA kit provides for the Quantitative measurement of Lactotransferrin in Cell Culture Supernatants, Plasma and Serum.

Application

For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
Please refer to the attached General ELISA KIT Procedure (sandwich, competitive & Indirect ELISA)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lactotransferrin regulates the immune and inflammatory responses. Lactotransferrin is also known to be involved in bone metabolism. It might play an important role in dental osseointegration implantation. Lactotransferrin is known for its antimicrobial anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. Anti-angiogenic, anti-tumor effects of this protein proves that it is a tumor suppressor. Neuronal differentiation is also an important function of lactotransferrin.
