Gene Information

human ... IL8(3576)

General description

Interleukin-8 (IL-8)/CXCL8 is an important chemoattractant cytokine and activator of neutrophils. It is liberated from endothelial cells, gingival fibroblasts, neutrophils, monocytes and phagocytes in the gingival crevice.[1] IL-8 belongs to the CXC subfamily. This gene is located on human chromosome 4q13.3.[2]

Immunogen

Recombinant Human IL-8

Application

Human IL-8 /CXCL8 ELISA Kit has been used:
  • to quantify IL?8 from A549 cell culture medium[3]
  • in quantitative measurement of IL-8 from cell culture supernatant[4]
  • in supernates of acute lung infection model (ALIM)[5]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Interleukin-8 (IL-8)/CXCL8 participates in the progression of peripheral muscle weakness in individuals with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).[6] It helps in the transport of neutrophils across endothelium, pulmonary epithelium and fibroblasts.[7]

There have been increasing indications about an epigenetically-based elevated predisposition of assisted reproductive technology (ART) offspring to insulin resistance, which can lead to an unfavorable cardio-metabolic profile in adult life. However, the relevant long-term systematic molecular studies are limited, especially
