Gene Information

human ... CCR5(1234)

General description

C-C motif chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) is expressed by T lymphocytes, macrophages and monocytes. It belongs to the chemokine receptor family. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 3p21.31.

Immunogen

a peptide corresponding to amino acids 6-20 of human CCR5.

Biochem/physiol Actions

C-C motif chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) is a receptor for chemokine ligands-3, -4 and -5. It acts as a co-receptor for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) entry in cells. The protein also has a role in leukocyte chemotaxis. CCR5 indirectly influence the aggregation of immune cells at the site of viral infection on mucosal surfaces. It also modulates activation of immune cells during inflammation.

Linkage

The action of this antibody can be blocked using blocking peptide SBP1112.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.02% sodium azide
