General description

The porcine serum comprises serum amyloid A (SAA), C-reactive protein (CRP), haptoglobin (Hp), and pig major acute phase protein (pig-MAP).

Application

Porcine Serum has been used:
  • in the neutralization of lipofectamine coated adeno-associated viruses (AAVs)
  • for inducing liver fibrosis in rats
  • as a standard negative reference in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
  • as a component of trypticase soy broth with 0.6% yeast extract (TSBYE) for culturing A. actinomycetemcomitans strains

Biochem/physiol Actions

Pig serum acute phase proteins (APP) show elevation with age. It is used for the culture of porcine islet cells.

    The protein concentration for the serum is given in gram percent (GM%) on the Certificate of Analysis.  This is equivalent to grams of protein per 100 mL of serum. The hemoglobin concentration is given in milligram percent (MG%), meaning milligrams of hemoglobin per 100 mL of serum.

    Product No. P9783, Porcine Serum is not heat-inactivated. If heat-inactivated Porcine serum is required, we offer Product No. 12736C.

  7. Is Porcine Serum, Product P9783, tested for endotoxin levels?

    Product No. P9783, Porcine Serum is tested for endotoxin which is reported on the lot specific Certificate of Analysis.  The specification is NMT 20.0 EU/ML (not more than 20 Endotoxin Units per milliliter).

  8. Can Product P9783, Porcine Serum, be used as a blocking agent in immunoassays?

    Product No. P9783, Porcine serum has not been tested as a blocking reagent, but it should work.

  9. What is the differences among Porcine Serum Products P9783, 12731C, 12736C and 12737C?

    All of these products are porcine serum. Product No. P9783 and 12731C are the same product. Product No. 12736C is heat-inactivated. Product No. 12737C is gamma-irradiated.
