General description

Monoclonal Anti-Peripherin (mouse IgG1 isotype) is derived from the 8G2 hybridoma produced by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells and splenocytes from mice immunized with the full-length recombinant rat peripherin. Peripherin was originally identified as a neuronal intermediate filament protein-(IF) is thought to be expressed only in the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
Peripherin is an intermediate filament protein. It is expressed in peripheral and enteric neurons. The gene encoding this protein is localized on rat chromosome 7.

Immunogen

full-length recombinant rat peripherin.

Application

Anti-Peripherin antibody, Mouse monoclonal has been used in:
  • immunohistochemistry
  • western blotting
  • enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
  • immunofluorescence staining

Biochem/physiol Actions

Peripherin is upregulated during pheochromocytoma PC12 cell differentiation. Later studies have detected peripherin also in certain central nervous system (CNS) neurons.
eripherin has been linked with axonal extension and regeneration of nerve fibers. It also has a role in neurite outgrowth propagation. Peripherin is a substrate of protein kinase B/Akt. Phosphorylation of this protein is induced after nerve injury.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 1% bovine serum albumin and 15 mM sodium azide.
