General description

Does not cross react with pro-NGF, pro-NT-3, or mature BDNF.
The brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) gene is mapped to human chromosome 11p14.1. The gene encodes a precursor protein, proBDNF. Mature BDNF (mBDNF) is synthesized by post-translational cleavage of proBDNF. Does not cross react with pro-NGF, pro-NT-3, or mature BDNF.

Immunogen

peptide corresponding to amino acid residues 72-88 of human BDNF (precursor). This sequence has 16/17 residues identical in mouse and rat.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) belongs to a family of secreted proteins called neurotrophins. Neurotrophins are synthesized as preproneurotrophin precursors and further processed to proneurotrophins and subsequently to neurotrophins. BDNF is expressed in the developing and the mature brain. The influence of BDNF is mediated by its binding to TrkB receptor and sometimes the receptor p75NTR. The downstream pathways promoted by BDNF include PI3K, MAPK and JAK/STAT. The most important role of BDNF is the regulation of synaptic transmission and plasticity, protein synthesis and phosphorylation of local proteins.

Physical form

Lyophilized from phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, with 1% bovine serum albumin and ≤0.1% sodium azide.
