Application

Periodic acid is commonly used as a component for glycoprotein stains. Selective staining of glycoproteins on SDS-PAGE and membranes is carried out using a modification of the Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) method. Staining of sugar moieties of glycoproteins yields magenta bands with a colorless background. The Periodic Acid/Schiff Reagent stains vicinal diol groups found mainly on peripheral sugars and sialic acids and is used as a general glycoprotein stain. Periodic acid is also used to cleave reversible cross-linkers (e.g. DATD, DHEBA) in PAGE gels.

Analysis Note

Tested for use in staining of glycoproteins.

Male gametes are generated through a specialised differentiation pathway involving a series of developmental transitions that are poorly characterised at the molecular level. The pathologic features of adult-onset leukoencephalopathy/leukodystrophy with axonal spheroids (ALAS) are variable, and this has led to different hypotheses as to whether primarily demyelination or axonopathy may underlie this disorder. Typical ALAS pathology is rarely accompanied by focal multiple sclerosis

Skeletal muscle is the most abundant tissue in the body and is a major source of total energy expenditure in mammals. Skeletal muscle consists of fast and slow fiber types, which differ in their energy usage, contractile speed, and force
