Application
Opsonizing reagents are used in affinity chromatography and protein chromatography. Opsonizing reagents have been used in studies to develop an easy and inexpensive method of investigating phagocytosis in retinal pigment epithelium cells. They have also been used to study roles in innate defense against infection and to investigate immunomodulating activity of medicinal plants.

The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is the most active phagocyte in the human body, and this function is indispensable for vision. In this study, we introduce an easy and inexpensive way to quantify RPE phagocytosis by opsonizing FITC-labeled latex beads

Ethanolic extracts of 23 medicinal plants, commonly used in Sudanese folk medicines against infectious diseases, were investigated for their immunomodulating activity using luminol/lucigenin-based chemiluminescence assay. Preliminary screenings on whole blood oxidative burst activity showed inhibitory activities of 14 plant extracts
