Gene Information

Application

NS 1619 has been used as calcium-activated potassium channels (BK)-activator: to study its vaso-relaxing effects on the thoracic aortic rings from mice, to evaluate its effects on the sarco-/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) activity from skeletal muscles, to determine its effects on the expression of caveolin-1 protein in mice brain tumor microvascular endothelial cells

Biochem/physiol Actions

NS 1619 is a selective large conductance Ca2+-activated K+-channel activator. The compound is known for its vasodilating and anti-proliferative properties. It is studied that NS 1619 can protect cardiac muscle against ischemia and reperfusion injury.
NS-1619 can promote the formation of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cardiac myocytes. It enhances the formation of ROS in cultured brain slices. NS-1619 has the ability to enhance HO-1 activity in wild-type (WT) animals.

Large conductance voltage- and Ca(2+)-activated K(+) (BK) channels are important in regulating detrusor smooth muscle (DSM) function. Here, we examined systematically how the BK channel pharmacological activation modulates DSM contractility. NS1619, a potent BK channel activator, was utilized as a

NS1619 (1,3-dihydro-1-[2-hydroxy-5-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-5-(trifluoromethyl)-2H-benzimidazole-2-one) is widely used as a large-conductance Ca(2+)-activated K(+) (BKCa) channel opener. It was previously reported that activation of BKCa channels by NS1619 could protect the cardiac muscle against ischaemia and reperfusion injury. This study reports the effects of

Large-conductance calcium-activated potassium channels (BK) of smooth muscle play a role in the relevant modulation of vascular tone, due to their calcium- and voltage-dependent mechanisms of activation. A potential role of endothelial BK channels has also been suggested by approaches

The objectives of this study were to determine whether neutrophil depletion with anti-neutrophil serum (ANS) or preconditioning with the hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) donor NaHS (NaHS-PC) 24 h prior to ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) would prevent postischemic mitochondrial dysfunction in rat intestinal mucosa
