General description
BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19kDa interacting protein 3-like (BNIP3L) is expressed in the outer membrane of mitochondria. The BNIP3L gene is localized on human chromosome 8p21.
Immunogen
synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 77-92 of an internal domain of human Nix. This peptide is identical in mouse.

Biochem/physiol Actions
BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19kDa interacting protein 3-like (BNIP3L) associates with proteins which are anti-apoptotic, like B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2). It also takes part in the growth of the erythroid lineage. Expression of BNIP3L is downregulated in lung cancer cells in vitro.

Mitochondrial autophagy (mitophagy) is a core cellular activity. In this review, we consider mitophagy and related cellular processes and discuss their significance for human disease. Strong parallels exist between mitophagy and xenophagy employed in host defense. These mechanisms converge on

Aging is characterized by a progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and function (sarcopenia). Obesity exacerbates age-related decline and lead to frailty. Skeletal muscle fat infiltration increases with aging and seems to be crucial for the progression of sarcopenia. Additionally
