General description
Renin, also known as angiotensinogenase, is an aspartyl protease that cleaves angiotensinogen to form angiotensin I, the initial and rate-limiting step of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). This system plays a critical role in the regulation of blood pressure and fluid balance. Increased renin activity can result in hypertension due to increased vasoconstriction and fluid retention. Inhibitors of renin can be used as a treatment for hypertension.
Application
Renin Assay Kit has been used to determine the activity of renin.
Suitability
The Renin Assay Kit provides a convenient and simple method for screening renin activity in a variety of samples or for screening renin inhibitors.
Principle
Renin activity is determined using a proprietary fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) peptide containing a fluorescence quencher. Cleavage of the peptide by renin results in the production of a fluorescent product (λex = 540/λem = 590 nm). This assay is ~50-fold more sensitive than the EDANS/DABCYL-based assay.

Acute intermittent hypoxia (AIH) triggers sympathetic long-term facilitation (sLTF), a progressive increase in sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) linked to central AT1 receptor (AT1R) activation by circulating angiotensin II (ANG II). Here, we investigated AIH activation of the peripheral renin-angiotensin system

The therapeutic potential of 2-Methoxyestradiol (2ME2) is evident in cardiovascular disease. Our laboratory has previously demonstrated the mechanism involved in the 2ME2 regulation of angiotensin type 1 receptor (AT1R) in vitro. However, 2ME2 regulation of angiotensin receptors and its effects
