General description
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme-containing enzyme that catalyzes the hydrogen peroxidase-mediated oxidation of halide ions to hypochlorous acid. MPO is a lysosomal protein, highly expressed in neutrophils, that plays a role in the antimicrobial actions that occur as a result of neutrophil stimulation. The actions of MPO may also contribute to the initiation and pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease.
Application
MPO Colorimetric Activity Assay Kit has been used to determine the activity of myeloperoxidase in samples.
Features and Benefits
Compatible with high-throughput handling systems.
Suitability
Suitable for the measurement of myeloperoxidase (MPO) in biological samples such as tissue, cells, serum and white blood cells
Principle
In this assay, MPO catalyzes the formation of hypochlorous acid, which reacts with taurine to form taurine chloroamine. Taurine chloroamine reacts with the chromophore TNB, resulting in the formation of the colorless product DTNB. One unit of MPO activity is defined as the amount of enzyme that hydrolyzes the substrate and generates taurine chloramine to consume 1.0 μmole of TNB per minute at 25 °C.

Increased fruit consumption is associated with reduced risk of colitis. It has been investigated whether the anti-colitic effects of the polyphenol-rich aronia berry (Aronia mitschurinii 'Viking') are mediated through Th17 and Treg. Colitis is induced in recombinase activating gene-1 deficient

Commonly used synthetic dietary emulsifiers, including carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and polysorbate-80 (P80), promote intestinal inflammation. We compared abilities of CMC vs. P80 to potentiate colitis and impact human microbiota in an inflammatory environment using a novel colitis model of ex-germ-free (GF)
