I have heard that I need to use sodium thiosulfate with Product M0880, Ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS), but I’m not sure how. Can you tell me?
EMS is a mutagen. After treating cells with EMS, the mutagenesis reaction may be stopped by adding the appropriate volume of a 5% sodium thiosulfate solution. The use of a 10% sodium thiosulfate solution with 1% TWEEN 20 has been used to clean surfaces and items such as pipettes that have been contaminated with EMS in mineral oil.
Is Product M0880, Ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS), sterile?
It is not necessarily sterile. For those applications that require a sterile EMS solution, the EMS should be added to the appropriate buffer or medium. The buffer or medium should then be sterile-filtered.
