Application

6α-Methylprednisolone has been used:
  • to stimulate RPMI 8226.1 cells in order to govern the expression of human interleukin-10 (IL-10) gene
  • to induce depletion of CD14+ CD16+ monocytes
  • to study its effect on behavioral and sensory afferent hypersensitivity

Biochem/physiol Actions

Methylprednisolone is a glucocorticoid having anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive actions. It is useful in treating skin diseases, allergies, multiple sclerosis, asthma, rheumatic disorders, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, croup and cancer.

  5. What solvents can be used for Methylprednisolone?

    Sigma tests the solublity of Methylprednisolone at 50 mg/ml in chloroform:methanol (1:1) yielding a clear, colorless to faint yellow solution. This product is practically insoluble in water, soluble 1 in 100 of dehydrated ethanol (10 mg/ml), slightly soluble in chloroform and ether; sparingly soluble in dioxan and methanol.  It has been reported that this product is soluble in DMSO at a concentration of 100 mM. An NMR has been run using DMSO-d6 suggesting this product is soluble at 5-10 mg/ml in DMSO.
