Application

Sephadex® LH-20 is a crosslinked dextran-based resin used with organic solvent mobile phases for gel permeation, normal phase partition, and adsorption chromatography of lipids, steroids, fatty acids, hormones, vitamins, etc. It is also used in gel filtration chromatography, protein chromatography, gel filtration media, resins and separation media.
Sephadex® LH-20 has been used to isolate bioactive polyphenolic content from blackberry genotypes and tryptophan from the aqueous extract of lotus rhizomes.

  1. Which document(s) contains shelf-life or expiration date information for a given product?

If available for a given product, the recommended re-test date or the expiration date can be found on the Certificate of Analysis.

  2. How do I get lot-specific information or a Certificate of Analysis?

The lot specific COA document can be found by entering the lot number above under the "Documents" section.

  3. What is Sephadex LH-20, Product LH20100?

Sephadex LH-20 is a beaded, cross-linked dextran which has been hydroxypropylated to yield a chromatographic media with both hydrophilic and lipophilic character.  Due to its dual character, LH-20 swell in water and a number of organic solvents.  The particle size and exclusion limit vary depending on the solvent used for swelling.  The swollen resin can be used for gel filtration separations of both hydrophilic and lipophilic compounds.

  4. What solvents can be used with Sephadex LH-20, Product LH20100?

    Sephadex LH-20 swells in water, polar organic solvents, aqueous solvent mixtures, and mixtures of polar organic solvents.  In solvent mixtures containing both polar and non-polar organic solvents the gel takes up predominantly the polar component.   Following is a table of solvents and the approximate swelling volume.  Solvents giving a bed volume of less than 2.5 ml/g dry gel are generally not used.Solvent                           Approx. bed volume (ml/g dry gel)Dimethyl sulfoxide           4.4 - 4.6Pyridine                          4.2 - 4.4Water                             4.0 - 4.4Dimethyl formamide        4.0 - 4.4Methanol                        3.9 - 4.3Chloroform                     3.8 - 4.1Ethanol                           3.6 - 3.9Methylene dichloride       3.6 - 3.9Tetrahydrofuran              3.3 - 3.6Acetone                          2.4 - 2.6Acetonitrile                     2.2 - 2.4Benzene                         1.6 - 2.0Ethyl acetate                   1.6 - 1.8Toluene                          1.5 - 1.6
