KB-R7943 inhibits the reversed Na(+)/Ca(2+) exchanger, NCX.
KB-R7943 inhibits the reversed Na(+)/Ca(2+) exchanger, NCX. In cardiomyocytes, Ca2+ is released from intracellular stores during contraction, and sequestered again during relaxation. NCX is the primary mechanism that prevents Ca2+ overload due to influx of calcium across the plasma membrane.

Mitochondrial integrity is critical for the regulation of cellular energy and apoptosis. Metformin is an energy disruptor targeting complex I of the respiratory chain. We demonstrate that metformin induces endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, calcium release from the ER and subsequent

GLT-1 is the main glutamate transporter in the brain and its trafficking controls its availability at the cell surface, thereby shaping glutamatergic neurotransmission under physiological and pathological conditions. Extracellular glutamate is known to trigger ubiquitin-dependent GLT-1 internalization from the surface

Astroglial excitability operates through increases in Ca2+cyt (cytosolic Ca2+), which can lead to glutamatergic gliotransmission. In parallel fluctuations in astrocytic Na+cyt (cytosolic Na+) control metabolic neuronal-glial signalling, most notably through stimulation of lactate production, which on release from astrocytes can
