General description
Interleukin-9 (IL-9) is a pleotropic cytokine produced by activated T cells and also by mast cells in response to LPS and IL-1. The production of IL-9 is amplified by TGF-β, IL-2 and IL-25. The biological effects of IL-9 are mediated by IL-9 receptor (IL-9R) that is made up of an α and a γ chain. IL-9 signalling results in the activation of major signalling pathways involving STAT1, -3 and -5, MAPK, PI3K and IRS. IL-9 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine and promotes allergic inflammation and airway remodelling in lungs. It also is important in cell growth and differentiation of T cells, B cells, mast cells, hematopoietic progenitors, epithelial cells and airway smooth muscle cells
Monoclonal Anti-Human Interleukin-9 recognizes human IL-9. It does not neutralize the activity of recombinant mouse IL-9. In ELISA and immunoblotting, it shows 20% cross reactivity with mouse IL-9.
Monoclonal Anti-Human Interleukin-9 recognizes human IL-9. It does not neutralize the activity of recombinant mouse IL-9. In ELISA and immunoblotting, it shows 20% cross reactivity with mouse IL-9.
Immunogen
recombinant human IL-9 expressed in Sf 21 insect cells.
Application
Anti-Interleukin-9 antibody may be used for immunoblotting at a working concentration of 1.0 μg/ml. For ELISA a concentration of 0.5 μg/ml is recommended. The antibody is also suitable for neutralization reactions.
Biochem/physiol Actions
The antibody neutralizes the biological activity of recombinant human IL-9, but not recombinant mouse IL-9.
Physical form
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline.
Preparation Note
Purified using protein G.

IL-9 was first described in the late 1980s as a member of a growing number of cytokines that had pleiotropic functions in the immune system. Although many biological functions have been attributed to IL-9, it remains an understudied cytokine. A
