General description
Lactamase Β2 (LACTB2) is a soluble monomeric protein, encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 8. The encoded protein is a metallo-Β-lactamase (MBL) expressed in in mammalian mitochondria. The encoded protein is predicted to be a member of glyoxalase II subfamily. LACTB2 contains ribonucleolytic MBL motifs.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions
Lactamase Β 2 (LACTB2) acts as an endoribonuclease and facilitates the turnover of mitochondrial RNA. It is crucial for mitochondrial functioning and cell viability. LACTB2 promotes colorectal carcinogenesis (CRC) by binding and inactivating the nuclear receptor coactivator 2 (NCOA2) gene in CRC.
