General description

SOX4 (SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 4) is an important developmental transcription factor. This protein is of 47kDa and coded by a single exon. It consists of a high mobility group DNA-binding domain (DBD) . It is usually overexpressed in different types of malignancies . SOX4 is mapped to human chromosome 6p22.

Application

Anti-SOX4 has been used in immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

SOX4 (SRY (sex determining region Y) box 4) plays a major role in modulating RELN (reelin) expression and the inside-out pattern of cortical layer formation . It is essential for the establishment of pan-neuronal protein expression. SOX4 is also a necessary factor for precise differentiation and proliferation in various tissues.
