General description

AT-rich interactive domain (ARID)-containing protein 5A (Arid5a), also known as modulator recognition factor 1 (MRF1), is a member of ARID protein family. The protein consists of helix-turn-helix motif DNA-binding domain called ARID, which binds to specific AT-rich DNA sequences. Arid5a or MRF1 is highly expressed in aorta, heart, skeletal muscle, and liver. Chlorpromazine (CPZ) acts as an inhibitor of Arid5a.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

AT-rich interactive domain (ARID)-containing protein 5A (Arid5a), in association with transcription factor SRY-box containing gene 9 (Sox9), plays a role in activation of chondrocyte-specific transcription. It also takes part in stabilization of IL-6 mRNA. Arid5a, along with other members of ARID protein family, plays vital role in development, tissue specific gene expression and proliferation. Arid5a/modulator recognition factor 1 (MRF1)protein regulates ER-dependent gene expression in cardiovascular and other cells.
