Gene Information

human ... RARB(5915)

General description

RARB exist with three major isotypes, termed α, β and γ. It is involved in the hormone-independent transcriptional activation. It is expressed in the cytoplasm and sub-nuclear space that resemble nuclear bodies.
The retinoic acid receptor-β(RARB) gene is mapped to human chromosome 3p24.

Application

All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry.

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. We also provide Prestige Antibodies® protocols and other useful information.
Anti-RARB antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunohistochemical staining.

Biochem/physiol Actions

RARB is a tumor suppressor gene. It interacts weakly with silencing mediator of retinoic acid and thyroid hormone receptor (SMRT) corepressor protein. It plays a pivotal role in mediating the retinoid signaling during morphogenesis, development, and cell differentiation. RARB plays an important role in retinoic acid pathway during eye development and organogenesis. Any recessive and dominant mutation in RARB causes anophthalmia and/or microphthalmia and diaphragmatic hernia. The suppression of RARB by DNA methylation and EZH2 leads to the gene silencing during prostate tumorigenesis.
The retinoic acid receptor-β(RARB) may act as an important target in cancer research. It is involved in the development of cancer and is linked with various human cancer types.

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

RARβ plays a critical role in cancer progression and is associated with several types of human cancer. It remains unclear, however, whether it is linked to the clinicopathological parameters of colorectal cancer (CRC). We therefore determined the expression of RARβ

Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) on chromosome arm 3p occurs frequently in human cancers, including esophageal cancer, suggesting that tumor suppressor genes may be located on this chromosome arm. The retinoic acid receptor-beta (RARB) gene is localized on chromosome band 3p24

DNA methylation and polycomb proteins are well-known mediators of epigenetic silencing in mammalian cells. Usually described as mutually exclusive, this statement is today controversial and recent in vitro studies suggest the co-existence of both repressor systems. We addressed this issue
