SAGE1 (sarcoma antigen 1) gene encodes a protein of 904 amino acids and is mapped to q28 region of chromosome X. Its expression is tumor-specific and is mainly expressed in bladder carcinoma, lung carcinoma, and head and neck carcinoma. It is not expressed in normal tissues, except in testis. It may encode antigens that could potentially be used for cancer immunotherapy.
