General description

Research area: Cell signaling

Hexokinase and Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase are intracellular enzymes found distributed widely in the living cells.
Enzyme Commission numbers 2.7.1.1 + 1.1.1.49

Application

Hexokinase and Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase from baker′s yeast (S. cerevisiae) has been used to evaluate the adenylate kinase (Adk), activities of the mutant Adk’s. It has also been used for the determination of glucose and ATP.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Hexokinase initiates the glycolysis pathway by catalyzing the phosphorylation of glucose to Glucose-6-phosphate in the presence of ATP. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase plays a role in the subsequent oxidation of Glucose-6-phosphate in the presence of triphosphopyridine nucleotide (TPN). Hexokinase and Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase both serve as a tool in biochemical and analytical studies for determining glucose, fructose, mannose, ATP, and creatin-kinase activity.

Packaging

Package sizes are based on hexokinase units.
