General description

Hydrocortisone has the potential to induce the formation of blood-brain barrier properties in serum-free culture media. It is recommended for use in epithelial and endothelial adherent cell culture applications.

Application

Hydrocortisone-Water Soluble has been used as a supplement in Dulbecco′s modified Eagle′s medium (DMEM)/high glucose medium to culture mammary alveolar (MAC-T) cells. It has also been used to study its effect on cation absorption by semicircular canal duct epithelium via epithelial sodium channel.

  5. How do I calculate the molarity of product H0396, Hydrocortisone-Water Soluble?

Product H0396 (Hydrocortisone-Water Soluble) is a complex of Hydrocortisone and cyclodextrin. Cyclodextrin is used to aid in the solubility of Hydrocortisone into water. In order to prepare a molar solution of Hydrocortisone you will have to base it on the Hydrocortisone content in the solution and not the entire complex.  Product H0396 is formulated to contain approximately 85 mg Hydrocortisone per gram of powder.  Based on this average, if you are preparing a 400 mg/ml stock solution, there will be approximately 34 mg of Hydrocortisone in 1 ml.  Below is the calculated molarity of Hydrocortisone when the complex is dissolved at 400 mg/ml in water. molecular weight X unknown molarity X volume = complex weight X complex ratio362.46 g/mol X Molarity X 1 ml = 400 mg X 0.085        Molarity = 0.094 MHydrocortisone molecular weight = 362.46 g/molmolarity (unknown) = mol/Lvolume = 1mlcomplex weight = 400 mgcomplex ratio = 85 mg Hydrocortisone/1 gm complex
