General description

Forskolin is a cell permeable diterpenoid isolated from Coleus forskohlii.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cell-permeable diterpenoid that possesses anti-hypertensive, positive inotropic, and adenylyl cyclase activating properties. Many of its biological effects are due to its activation of adenylyl cyclase and the resulting increase in intracellular cAMP concentration. Forskolin effects calcium currents and inhibits MAP kinase.

  1. Which document(s) contains shelf-life or expiration date information for a given product?

If available for a given product, the recommended re-test date or the expiration date can be found on the Certificate of Analysis.

  2. How do I get lot-specific information or a Certificate of Analysis?

The lot specific COA document can be found by entering the lot number above under the "Documents" section.

  3. How do I find price and availability?

There are several ways to find pricing and availability for our products. Once you log onto our website, you will find the price and availability displayed on the product detail page. 4. What is the Department of Transportation shipping information for this product?

Transportation information can be found in Section 14 of the product's (M)SDS.To access the shipping information for this material, use the link on the product detail page for the product.

  5. How should I store a DMSO or ethanol solution of Product F3917, Forskolin?

Forskolin solutions at 5 mg/mL in either ethanol or DMSO have been found to be stable for at least 6 months at room temperature, as determined by HPLC analysis.

  6. How can I make an aqueous solution of Product F3917, Forskolin?

Forskolin is soluble in water (with 2% ethanol) up to 0.2 mM by first dissolving in ethanol at 5 mg/mL and performing subsequent dilutions in water. Similar results were obtained with DMSO.

  7. Will residual solvents inhibit forskolin activation of adenylate cyclase?

Various solvents, including ethanol, inhibit the forskolin activation of adenylate cyclase. DMSO is recommended for preparing forskolin solutions, because at concentrations of 5% or less of DMSO, there is little if any inhibition of forskolin activation.
