  1. Which document(s) contains shelf-life or expiration date information for a given product?

If available for a given product, the recommended re-test date or the expiration date can be found on the Certificate of Analysis.

  2. How do I get lot-specific information or a Certificate of Analysis?

The lot specific COA document can be found by entering the lot number above under the "Documents" section.

  3. Is Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated, ready to use?

The dialysis tubing has been hydrated.  A preservative is present.  It is recommended that the tubing be washed well in running water before use.

  4. What is the internal pressure Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated, can withstand?

The tubing has a wall strength of 6-9 psi.

  5. Can Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated, be reused?

Sigma-Aldrich does not recommend that the tubing be reused.

  6. What is the inflated volume of Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated?

The inflated volume is approximately 100 mL/foot.

  7. What are the retention properties of Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated?

Benzoylation reduces the size of the pores in the membrane such that the molecular weight cut-off is reduced to approximately 2 kDa.  Compounds with a molecular weight of 1200 will freely pass through the membrane.  Compounds with a molecular weight of 2000 or greater will be retained by the membrane.

  8. After removing the preservative, can Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated, be stored for future use?

We do not recommend storing the tubing without preservative. Simply prepare the tubing and use it the same day.

  9. Are there certain conditions to avoid when using Product D7884, Dialysis tubing benzoylated?

The tubing is sensitive to pH above 8 and should not be exposed to temperatures above 70 °C, since this may alter the pore size. Methanol will not damage the dialysis tubing and it may be used to store it. Tubing becomes brittle when allowed to dry.
