General description
Vero cells are derived from the kidney of an African green monkey. These are anchorage-dependent cells that have applications in molecular and cell biology research. Vero E6 cells enable achieving high titers of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV virus) and are also used in the cultivation of Rabies virus, Reovirus and Japanese encephalitis virus.
Cell Line Origin
Monkey African Green kidney
Cell Line Description
A subclone of Vero76 (Sigma catalog no. 85020205) exhibiting a similar range of virus susceptibility (haemorrhagic viruses). They show some degree of contact inhibition and are suitable for supporting the growth of slowly replicating viruses.
Application
VERO C1008 has been used for transfection, cultivation and propagation of West Nile virus, yellow fever virus, ZIKA, Ebola virus, Sabethes flavivirus (SbFV), Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), Human-derived Lake Victoria Marburg virus strain Popp.
Culture Medium
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:10, i.e., seeding at 1-3x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37 °C.
