Biochem/physiol Actions
The encoded protein, voltage-gated chloride channel, is a transmembrane protein that maintains chloride ion homeostasis in various cells. Defects in this gene may be a cause of certain epilepsies. Autosomal-recessive mutations ion this gene cause a leukoencephalopathy that affects brain ion and water homoeostasis. It is characterized by intramyelinic oedema. It is involved in maintaining the volume of trabecular meshwork cells by adjusting the outflow of aqueous solutions and for maintaining the fluid balance. It may be a potential target for the treatment of primary open angle glaucoma.
Physical form
Lyophilized at ~0.6 mg/ml from phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 1% bovine serum albumin, 5% sucrose and 0.025% sodium azide

Molecular medicine reports, 8(4), 1099-1105 (2013-08-13)
The chloride channel protein 2 (CLC‑2) is important in maintaining the volume of trabecular meshwork cells by adjusting the outflow of aqueous solutions and maintaining the fluid balance. However, little is known concerning the functions of CLC‑2 in the cytoskeleton
Human mutation, 30(3), 397-405 (2009-02-05)
Heterozygous mutations in the CLCN2 gene encoding the voltage-gated chloride channel CLC2 have been identified in patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE). Yet the involvement of CLCN2 in epilepsy remains controversial. To investigate the involvement of CLCN2 in another independent
The Lancet. Neurology, 12(7), 659-668 (2013-05-28)
Mutant mouse models suggest that the chloride channel ClC-2 has functions in ion and water homoeostasis, but this has not been confirmed in human beings. We aimed to define novel disorders characterised by distinct patterns of MRI abnormalities in patients
