Application

Ionophore highly selective for Ca2+. Potentiates responses to NMDA but not quisqualate. In cell culture, stimulates nitric oxide production by calmodulin-dependent constitutive nitric oxide synthase. Used to study effects of elevated intracellular calcium on mitochondrial function and intrinsic apoptosis.
