General description
Choline chloride is the synthetic form of vitamin B4, choline and is a common poultry feed.
Choline acetyltransferase substrate
Application
Choline chloride has been used:
- as a substrate for measuring choline oxidase enzyme activity using fluorescence measurements
- as a component of non-physiological buffers for testing calcium based inhibition of cytochrome c oxidaseP
- as a component of perfusate solution for studying arterial pressure in jejunum samples
Biochem/physiol Actions
Choline chloride treatment of radish seeds modulates phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine levels. It elicits hepatoprotective effects and modulates methyl carbon based metabolic pathways.
