General description

Alcian Blue 8GX is a cationic phthalocyanine dye. It has an ability to interact with sulphated glycosaminoglycan. It is used as a counterstain to visualize histological tissue sections. In addition, alcian blue 8GX also aids in the in-situ quantification of marine biofilms produced by marine bacteria.

Application

Alcian Blue 8GX has been used:
  • for the quantification of sulphated glycosaminoglycan
  • to stain differentiated chondrocytes to access proteoglycan′s synthesis by these cells
  • to stain Multi-lineage differentiation of hemangioma-derived perivascular cells (Hem-PCs)
  • in histological staining to detect neutral and charged carbohydrate residues
