General description

HEPES has been described as one of the best all-purpose buffers available for biological research.[1] At biological pH, the molecule is zwitterionic, and is effective as a buffer at pH 6.8 to 8.2. HEPES has been used in a wide variety of applications, including tissue culture. It is commonly used to buffer cell culture media in air. HEPES finds its usage in in vitro experiments on Mg.[2]

Application

HEPES has been used as a component of:
  • DMEM (Dulbecco′s modified Eagle′s medium) used for the cultivation of CHO-GPR40?cells[3]
  • RNA buffer (for gel-filtration chromatography) and transcription buffer (for transcription reaction)[4]
  • Recapture solution to re-capture RNA exosomes from the glycerol gradient[5]
  • ExoI and ExoII extraction solution as well as light and heavy gradient solution for gradient centrifugation[6]
  • 2X HBS buffer that is used in transfection process for the production of recombinant lentivectors[7]

Other Notes

3′-Terminal labeling of RNA with T4 RNA ligasecitation; Isolation and analysis of nuclear RNA - component of reaction buffer, prehybridization buffer, hybridization buffercitation.
