General description

Magnesium sulfate is an anhydrous magnesium salt.

Application

Anhydrous magnesium sulfate can be used as a drying agent in organic synthesis. Due to its high affinity towards water molecules, it removes trace amount of dissolved water from the organic extracts during the workup process.[1][2] It is also used as a drying agent in the off-line supercritical fluid extraction method.[3]
