General description

Sodium bisulfate monohydrate can be used as a reagent for the oxidation of benzylic alcohols to aldehydes and ketones, diarylcarbazides to diaryl carbazones, 1,2-dihydroquinolines to quinoline derivatives, and 1,4-dihydropyridines to pyridine derivatives. It can also be used as a catalyst in the esterification of carboxylic acids and alcohols to synthesize esters. Additionally, it is an effective oxygen scavenger to inhibit corrosion.

Application

  • Preservative and Sanitizer in Food Microbiology: Sodium bisulfate monohydrate is effectively used as a preservative in apple juice and as an alternative sanitizer for washing cherry tomatoes. Its antimicrobial properties help control pathogens like Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli, ensuring food safety. This application is crucial for chemists working in food microbiology and safety, highlighting the compound′s role in maintaining the quality and safety of food products (Chen et al., International Journal of Food Microbiology, 2022).

  • One-Step Hydrolysis for Xylooligosaccharides Production: Sodium bisulfate monohydrate is employed in a one-step hydrolysis process for the efficient production of xylooligosaccharides from poplar. This method enhances the yield and purity of xylooligosaccharides, which are valuable in various industrial applications, including food additives and pharmaceuticals. This research underscores its importance in bioprocessing and green chemistry initiatives (Liao et al., SSRN Electronic Journal, 2022).
