How can solutions of Product PVP10, Polyvinylpyrrolidone, be kept?
Sterile solutions can probably be kept at room temperature for several months.
What is the K value in the specification of Product PVP10, Polyvinylpyrrolidone, and how is it determined?
Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is characterized by its K value, a dimensionless value which is a function of the average molecular weight, the degree of polymerization, and the intrinsic viscosity. It is calculated from dilute solution viscosity measurements. log (Ns/No)/C = (75 Ko x Ko)/(1 + 1.5 Ko C) + Ko where Ns = viscosity of the solution, No = viscosity of the solvent and C = concentration in grams per 100 ml of solution. K = 1000 x Ko. The larger the K value for a material, the higher the viscosity.
What solvents can be used to dissolve Product PVP10, Polyvinylpyrrolidone?
This compound is readily soluble in water. It has also been reported in the chemicals encyclopedia published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, 12th ed., Entry# 7879 to be soluble in ethanol and chloroform, but practically insoluble in ether.
