General description

This Certified Reference Material (CRM) is produced and certified in accordance with ISO 17034 and ISO/IEC 17025. All information regarding the use of this CRM can be found on the certificate of analysis.

Pharmaceutical secondary standards for application in quality control provide pharma laboratories and manufacturers with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to the preparation of in-house working standards.

Eucalyptol, a natural monoterpene, is a component of many medicinally active aromatic plants, such as eucalyptus, cardamom, thyme, rosemary, and ginger. It exhibits subduing effect on mucus hypersecretion, non-purulent rhinosinusitis, and asthma.

Application

This pharmaceutical secondary standard can also be used as follows:

  • Simultaneous estimation of menthol and eucalyptol in their combined marketed analgesic formulations by high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) procedure
  • The development of an International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guideline validated HPTLC method for the determination of α-pinene and eucalyptol in plants from the Lamiaceae family
  • Headspace sorptive extraction (HSSE) of seven monoterpenes for their gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS) based quantitative analysis from different honey samples
  • Screening and estimation of eucalyptol in a polyherbal formulation using an HPTLC-based technique

Analysis Note

These secondary standards offer multi-traceability to the USP, EP and BP primary standards, where they are available.

Headspace sorptive extraction (HSSE) was used to preconcentrate seven monoterpenes (eucalyptol, linalool, menthol, geraniol, carvacrol, thymol and eugenol) for separation by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Three commercially available coatings for the stir bars, namely Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), polyacrilate (PA)
