General description

Reference Material (RM) 8631b is intended to be used as a secondary material for calibrating particle sizing instruments, especially optical particle counters, when used in conjunction with published standard methods. A unit of RM 8631b consists of 20 g of a natural mineral dust that is heterogeneous in composition and polydisperse with respect to size.

Application

  • Inhalation toxicity testing with Medium Test Dust: Medium Test Dust (MTD) is employed in inhalation toxicity studies to assess the pulmonary responses to particulate contaminants. This application facilitates understanding of dust impact on respiratory health, essential for safety evaluations in pharmaceutical and environmental contexts (Ding et al., 2023).

  • Pharmaceutical filter testing: The efficiency of filtration systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing can be evaluated using Medium Test Dust. Studies involving MTD help determine filter performance against particulate contaminants, ensuring product purity and compliance with health standards (Kepper et al., 2023).

  • Contaminant simulation in biotech: MTD is utilized for simulating various environmental and industrial contaminants in biotechnological research, providing a consistent baseline for testing the efficacy of contamination control strategies and material resilience (Freer et al., 2022).
