General description

The release of phosphate or pyrophosphate in an enzymatic reaction can be detected by malachite green and is measured spectrometrically at 660nm.

Application

Malachite Green oxalate salt has been used in biliary phospholipid analysis.
Malachite Green oxalate salt has been used:
  • in the preparation of malachite green-ammonium molybdate reagent, as a stop solution for starch synthase activity assay
  • to terminate the phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) inhibition assay using phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5) triphosphate (PI(3,4,5)P3) as substrate
  • to determine trypanothione synthetase activity to measure inorganic phosphate release from adenosine triphosphate (ATP) during catalysis

Biochem/physiol Actions

Malachite green is used in the treatment of fungal and parasitic infections in fish.
