General description
Fluroxypyr is a systemic herbicide that belongs to the pyridine family and is widely used in crop fields for controlling the post-emergence broadleaf weeds. Fluroxypyr is applied in ester form and after uptake by the leaf, it is hydrolyzed to fluroxypyr acid, which is translocated rapidly to other parts of plants. It induces auxin-like responses, disrupts the key metabolic process, and causes lethal symptoms in plants
The Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) and an Acceptable Operator Exposure Level (AOEL) for Fluroxypyr has been defined at 0.8 mg/kg body weight. Fluroxypyr is approved for use in European Union (EU) as per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. The maximum residue level (MRLs) for Fluroxypyr (sum of fluroxypyr, its salts, esters, and conjugates, expressed as fluroxypyr) has been set from 0.01 mg/kg to 2 mg/kg for products of plants and animal origin following Regulation (EU) 2021/1098.
Fluroxypyr has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
Application
- Evaluate the eco-toxicity of fluroxypyr to green algae, bioaccumulation, and degradation of fluroxypyr in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, followed by investigation of its biological adaptation to fluroxypyr toxicity
- Study the effects of soil microbe, soil type, dissolved organic matter, temperature, soil moisture, and surfactant on fluroxypyr degradation in soils
- Study the photocatalytic degradation of herbicide fluroxypyr in aqueous suspension of TiO2
- Investigate the adsorption and thermal desorption of the herbicide fluroxypyr on activated carbon fibers and cloth at different pH values
- Study the hydrolysis, aqueous photolysis, and soil degradation of fluroxypyr under laboratory conditions
