General description

Methylene Blue (MB) is a basic[1] histological dye.[2]

Application

Methylene Blue hydrate has been used:
  • in the preparation of methylene blue (MB) solution to stain zymograms[1]
  • to label the injection site in the tissue slices[3]
  • to pre-treat mice via oral gavage to study its effects on noise-induced hearing loss[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Methylene blue (MB) plays a key role in microbiology and pharmacology. It is mainly used in staining live organisms and in methemoglobinemia treatment.[2] MB can be considered as a possible and safe vasoconstrictor.[5] It has several applications in textile, paper and hair coloring sectors.[1]
